An army of fans is waiting for the next release in the Total War: Warhammer franchise; it’s been a popular seller – over 1.2 million people play the game per month, and it sold well over half a million copies within the first few days when it went on sale.
The developers, Creative Assembly have promised a trilogy, and as of yet, only the first part from that threesome has been released, so we are expecting the Total War: Warhammer sequel to be coming soon, although there is much speculation as to exactly when.
Total War: Warhammer 2 News
Some fans have the Total War: Warhammer release date as early as October 2017, while others are claiming that it will be at least next year, and even then, we have dates ranging from March, May and July. No one really knows apart from Creative Assembly, although they have said that development work has been underway for some time and that now the Bretonnia DLC has been released, development work for episode one has ceased, so there will be no more DLC’s or further releases for it.
One of the things that we know for definite is that Creative Assembly have said that although episode 2 and 3 will be completely standalone games, they will work as ‘bolt-ons’ with episode one – giving unrivalled play across all three arenas.
New Gameplay Features
What else can we expect with the new Warhammer 2? Fans are saying that with this latest game, we should have the Lizardmen, High Elves, Dark Elves and possibly some kind of naval combat mixed in to the gameplay. The current episode one has four different and playable factions; Empire (Humans), Greenskins (Orcs and Goblins), Dwarfs and Vampire Counts (undead).
Creative Assembly have also said that the Total War: Warhammer maps will be “as big or bigger” than the original – so it looks like the game will be expanding slightly as well.
Currently, the Total War: Warhammer 2 Mac version is still under development, as it stands at the moment, we have it available only on PC or Linux, available through Steam. As to whether we will ever see a PS4 or Xbox One version, who only knows? You’d like to think that we would, but coding for the consoles is a different ball game than PC, and the two Creative Assembly teams (one concentrating on the trilogy, the other on new content) are already busy, so they may not even be in the position to start developing for consoles.
Total War: Warhammer Sequel Launch Date Speculations
There is nothing official released yet, certainly no trailer or video, although of course there are plenty of fan sites offering a clickbait title for a trailer. The online videos available are pretty poor quality and none of them are based on fact, so if you’re desperately looking for news about Total War, stay away from the videos because they’ll tell you nothing.
Going on past history, we would expect Creative Assembly to release something about 6 months before the official launch date (which nearly puts October 2017 out for a start), so instead of a game launch in October of this year, perhaps we will just see a trailer released? At least then we will have further confirmation as to what we are going to see in the game – what updates to expect.
When it comes to this type of gaming arena, Creative Assembly are one of the UK’s biggest and best developers, their Warhammer franchise is set to continue dominating the market. We certainly hope that the Warhammer 2 game arrives this year, and that we don’t have to wait too much longer (perhaps that’s another plus point to not being available on console – some of the larger and more popular games take three to four years to develop, even with huge teams of developers).
Whether we’ll get the full list of fanboy requests being incorporated into Warhammer 2, we don’t know. But given that Creative Assembly have developed the game specifically to cater to their fans, you’d think that they must at least be listening and reading the forums – most game developers do – after all, it’s a completely free resource open to them – like market research but free and actually targeting the people that they want to, rather than a random collection of strangers.
No doubt that Creative Assembly will be releasing a whole load of DLC’s and updated content within a short period of time of the release – that’s another great feature of the Total War franchise.
