The next part of the popular XCOM franchise has released recently – and was had pretty good reception, almost 90 points in Metacritic (88 to be exact), and nominated as the best strategy game for 2016. That’s what happening today, but what for tomorrow? More DLCs or we should expect the soon release of XCOM 3?
Disabling Timers for XCOM 2
The second part is not an ideal game. There is something that bothers most players too much – mission timers. For tactic strategy game is not the necessary point, moreover, some players feel too much tension and unable to concentrate while hard missions.
That is why after the release date of XCOM 2, mod makers released timer disabling. Devs has also admitted that the game lack of ‘timer turn off’ feature.
We could almost certainly state that XCOM 2 will get DLCs. The reason why we so confident – game files indicates more assets and locations, however unavailable in game, marked as Xpacks. Firaxis (game developing studio) don’t give any comment regarding this, so the release date of DLCs is unlikely to be in the nearest future.
Most fans desire to have features from the previous parts of the game – some of their wishes is likely to be granted for sure.
Expanding the Series
The XCOM franchise including not only games, but also books, board games. And it has a vast community support. That’s why we could predict that XCOM game series might go further than traditional turn-based strategy game. That may be first person shooter, real-time strategy or something else. Such approach might frighten away many year fans of game, but could draw attention to series from gamers never heard of XCOM (or those who dislike such genre).
One way or another, XCOM won’t be abandoned – such a profitable and popular game series, with a big loyal community, simply cannot stay as is.
