Sony PlayStation VR device has gained a lot of attention since it was announced. Now that its release is known, the headset is one of the topic news in the world of gamers.
The first news from company responsible for production of VR headset said that we would see it in April 2016. It was leak which made all the fans very excited. However, things changed when GameSpot which is a US retailer claimed that there would be no Sony VR headset until fall 2016. Even though many people found it unbelievable things come true as far as we can see. Than GDC 2016 event happened where Sony representatives announced that their new device would be available starting from October 2016. A bit later E3 2016 proved this promise. 13 October 2016 was said to be the date when you can try virtual reality by Sony yourself.
The initial price of this device is $700 which includes spatial along with motion tracking. However, if you are already the owner of PlayStation4, the price will be lower. Thus VR headset by Sony will cost you $399 only. Plus you can buy VR helmet stand for $50. By the way combination of PC with Oculus or Vive will be as much as $1,200. Nevertheless, the new toy from Sony is certainly not for kids. The company says that their product is made for children who are not under 12 years.
Playstation blurVR anyone? Sit still.
Well, Sony made a great job to release the most affordable VR headset in the market (except mobile ones), but is it worth the price of the whole PS4 with accessories? I don’t think so. The first issue is a resolution. Resolution is everything – and we don’t seem to see any revolution here. Don’t even close to Vive and Oculus. PS3 level graphics for mid-PC price – no thanks.
What is more? Dull gameplay. Look at the new VR-version of Batman for PS VR – you can’t even fight with criminals! There is no action at all, just cut scenes. Forget about moving, just sit still on your coach.
Setting PSVR up is not that simple in fact. To provide this device with enough power you will need a separate outlet. One of PS4 USB slots has to be used to let it interact with VR device. The unit itself is rather large and requires enough space. Many users who have already tried this thing say that it took them around 15 minutes to get started. When you have set everything up, you need to boot your PS4 and make a few adjustments which are simple enough. As soon as you turn VR helmet on your console launches an appropriate mode. All the buttons are intuitive assisting you to set the right resolution of the image. According to the official data you need to have around 10 by 6 foot of space in your room to play games in virtual reality.
There are comments that PS product provide approximately the same virtual reality experience as Oculus Rift or HTC Vive does. Most of the comments relate to immersion itself. Thus, you feel inside of a game and as a part of the story told to you. However, both Sony competitors are said to offer higher resolution when playing. The performance of Oculus Rift and HTC Vive depends on specifications of your PC mainly. Since PSVR uses PS console its performance is locked.
