Ori and the Blind Forest is an adventure single player platform video game published by Microsoft Studios and developed by Moon Studios for Xbox One and Microsoft Windows. It was released on 11 March, 2015 for Xbox One and Microsoft Windows. Xbox 360 version of the game is still under development.
The main character of the game is Ori, a white guardian spirit that falls into the vivid forest and is adopted and raised by a black bear like creature. As the time passes Ori gains many special abilities and meets various new friends in the forest.
First, there is amazing personality and characterization to Ori and the other residents of the forest. Ori treats his friends with respect and care, and grants them the personalities and motivations, all without speaking much dialogues. There are enemies in the forest too, but there is no evil. The whole theme of the game is peaceful and engaging.
Secondly, Ori and the Blind Forest is extremely beautiful. There is a distinctive, quirky art style to various characters in the game, and they are beautifully animated to show the character their affection without the need of speaking much dialogues. The emotional aspect of the game is great.
Ori and the Blind Forest is set in an amazing world which requires no loading screens. There are a variety of role playing elements in the game that are shown to players when Ori grows older and acquires new abilities as the story progresses.
Checkpoints can be made at any time in the game, but require a special item which can be acquired through gameplay, however this item is scarce and forces players to make a strategic decision of whether or not the game should be saved at certain point in the game. The save points are referred as “Soul Links”.
The core gameplay is focused on adventure rather than action and offers a lot of exploration choices to players. Ori can go almost anywhere in the forest at any time. If Ori can’t reach a spot in the forest it’s because he doesn’t have the required skill yet. Ori finds new special abilities as the game progresses. Abilities that make the exploration more fun, for example, floating, wall jumping, etc. There are many enemy encounters and deadly challenges in the game, which can kill Ori if he makes too many mistakes when facing them.
