Rumors surround the release of the next Grand Theft Auto are everywhere. Admittedly, most of the rumors are created by fanboys purely because the game developers, Rockstar, have said absolutely zero about GTA 6.
Grand Theft Auto 5 was the biggest and fastest selling game of all time; $800 million in sales on the first day, and over $1 billion in the first three days. Yes, you read that right, ONE BILLION DOLLARS. So far, the GTA 5 game has sold over 75 million copies worldwide, this of course includes downloads – that could be almost a quarter of the whole of the U.S. population.
GTA 6 Release Date
The GTA 6 release date is still right up in the air – looking at the intervals between the last games in the series (GTA was 1997, GTA II in 1999, GTA III was 2001, GTA IV came along in 2008 and the GTA V rolled out in 2013) we don’t expect to see GTA VI announced anywhere before late 2018, some have even said as late as 2020.
Along with GTA, Rockstar are also behind the other super popular game, Red Dead Redemption; they are releasing Red Dead Redemption 2 around about now, so Rockstar have been busy developing that, which of course could mean that the development of the GTA 6 story could be delayed.

Gameplay and Map
What else do we know about the GTA 6 gameplay? There’s strong rumor that we could be seeing a return to the GTA 6 London map, but the development team have kind of squashed that rumor, but of course, that leads to further speculation about the GTA 6 map – the more fool hardy fans have said that the map will incorporate the whole of the U.S. rather than just one city, with some sort of time travel to get from the East to West Coast.
OK, we aren’t the developers, but let’s just put a lid on that rumor right now… there is no way that’s going to happen – the power needed to store and run that kind of map just isn’t available on consoles, even when you get GTA 6 for PC, it isn’t going to happen.
New Female Character and Wishlist
One of the more interesting asks from the fans is to have a strong female lead character, someone who is hot, and so very badass. That’s a great idea, and it seems to be the most popular thing that everyone’s asking for. We doubt that it’s a legion of feminists asking for it though, more likely to be the younger boys that lock themselves away in their room for days on end. Other wants from the fans include an updated range of vehicles (specifically GTA VI cars) with more customizable options (some have even asked for a fuel gauge! You’re playing the wrong game if you want a full driving sim).
We’ve also seen people wanting to go all retro – back to the 1970’s, more realism and more shops with better interactions. We would say that for those people wanting more realism and better interactions, you’re missing the point of the game – it isn’t about realism – unless of course your world includes shooting hookers and going on a rampage?
Game Engine Upgrade and Trailer
Another problem with adding all this realism is that the Rage game engine would need a significant upgrade, if not a complete redesign. But, in another 2 or 3 years, there is no doubt that we’ll have the latest Xbox and PlayStation consoles, so maybe Rockstar are already working on updating the game engine to work for the new consoles.
If you’re looking for GTA 6 videos, then you’ll find plenty of un-official ones online – all made by fans so don’t expect too much realism or ‘fact’ to be included. There are no official GTA 6 trailers yet, Rockstar will release them a month or two before the game is ready to be released, so until then, you’ll just have to make do with the fan based videos. To be honest, some of them are really good, you may not even realize that you’re watching something made in someone’s bedroom for the price of a cup of coffee.
Conclusion
With the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar have been working away in the background on the easier bits of GTA 6 mods – things like the DLC’s and online content are always getting updated – it’s a profitable area for Rockstar and compared to coding a whole new game, it’s relatively quick and turns good profit – millions of people download extra maps and content online. Why wouldn’t you? It makes perfect sense; when you’re bored of the regular content, you download a new map or mission pack and crack on again.
In all honesty, no one outside of Rockstar really knows what is happening and when, of course people will tell you they know, but don’t believe them.
We’ve brought together a list of speculation and added our thoughts as to what people want, and the likelihood of it happening.
What do you think we’re going to see?
