Deadpool is a third-person arcade-style action video game based on the Marvel Comics character Deadpool. It was published by Activision and developed by High Moon Studios. Deadpool the game features fourth-wall shattering comedy and a beat ‘em up gameplay.
Deadpool is a third-person arcade-style action video game. Core gameplay involves combo-based melee combat and gunplay. Deadpool is an expert of firearms and blades, and you can choose either firearms or blades in any combat situation. It’s quite simple but effective. Apart from simple firearms, grenades are also available to flush out the enemies hiding behind covers.
Gameplay mechanics are repetitive, even when rushed by mobs of bad guys. There are many types of enemies in the game that require different combat techniques to defeat them, but most of the time, you are just shooting or slashing. An upgrade system is also available which allows you to utilize “Deadpool Points” for upgrading abilities and weapons. But even new weapons can’t improve gameplay experience. In Challenge Mode, there are wave-based survival levels available in different environment from story. There’s not much to do but fight enemies and loot ammo, which gets old very quickly.
Deadpool trailer shows off plenty of action involving melee combats and gunplay. As expected, humor is also featured in the trailer as Deadpool makes fun of his enemies during combat. Most of the action involves firearms and blades, but explosions from heavy firearms are also shown in the trailer.
Deadpool was initially released on 25 June, 2013 for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game will be released on 17 November, 2015.
Release date: 17 November, 2015
The game starts with Deadpool discussing the details of the game with the president of High Moon Studios. Fourth-wall shattering comedy have been attempted by many other games, but none have pulled it off as superbly as Deadpool. Deadpool influences an acute knowledge of its fanbase and offers a seamless funny experience.
Combat is frantic and bloody, allowing access to four firearms, three melee weapons, and four thrown items, all of those weapons can be mixed on the fly. Different combos can be experienced by mixing different combat weapons in a single fight. Learning those combos helps keep the combat gameplay experience enjoyable.
Boredom starts after the first few hours of gameplay. Despite the fact that weapon upgrade system helps, but lack of enemy variety makes the gameplay repetitive. There are various types of enemies in the game, but they are always defeated with the same techniques, rarely requiring any variety in combat strategy. This is even more obvious during the boss battles, which could’ve been a lot better. Instead, they are all the same, requiring little to no effort to win. Overall, the gameplay experience is not as expected, but fourth-wall shattering comedy makes the game fun.
