Tomb Raider Underworld Gameplay
Tomb Raider Underworld is played in a third-person perspective, in which player assumes control of Lara Croft. The gameplay uses a dynamic animation blending system which allows dynamic interaction of Lara with the environment, for example, Lara pushes foliage sideways with either one or two hands, depending on whether she is carrying a weapon or not. Another gameplay feature is a hybrid lighting model that combines carefully created light maps with dynamic lights and a vibrant weather system that changes the entire gameplay environment.
Tomb Raider Underworld also introduces new melee combat mechanics, requiring Lara in some cases to use direct melee combat and sometimes evasive maneuvers to create a distance between herself and her attacker. Lara’s bike is also a key component in solving many puzzles during her adventure. Items picked-up by Lara have several uses as tools and weapons in interaction with the environment. The grappling hook can now be used to push different objects off ledges. For the first time, the gameplay is made non-linear as compared to previous games, and removes the need for any hint icons indicating the option to interact with different objects.
